Recycling

 ​These days with the advancement of technology we can now recycle a number of items that were previously impossible such as auto glass. Recycling windshields, for example, isn't incredibly difficult and is good for the environment. In fact, it is estimated that for every ton of glass recycled, more than a ton of natural resources are saved.

This recycling technology was not always available. In fact, it was not until nearly 20 years ago that auto glass was first recycled. Still today, many windshields are not recycled due to auto body facilities not offering this service. Windshields are usually made of two panes of glass sealed together with an inner layer of plastic. This inner layer of plastic is what is used to prevent recycling from occurring. Today, this material can not be recycled.

As for the surplus glass, it is collected in containers and sold to raw glass suppliers in order to recycle it again and benefit from it.
